In this example we edit the seams in the Gimp. Editing in Photoshop
works the same; any graphics program capable of handling image layers
should work.

Now we can start editing. To enlarge the area covered by the blue-indexed image, we select this blue color using the pipette-tool,and set it as foreground color for painting. Then we use any of the graphics tools to paint blue color into the areas to be covered. The following screenimage shows an intermediate editing step. To edit other seams we choose the appropriate colors for those images.
When we are done editing we have to save the upper layer: Set the transparency to 0, collapse the layers, and save in a lossless format (TIFF or PPM). This is the new mask image of our example:
